Case Study: Opichi Helped a Curriculum Admin Make Their AI Worksheet Generator Generate and SavE Accurately
Challenge
A school’s curriculum administrator approached Opichi for help with an AI-powered English Language Arts worksheet generator. While they vibe coded a tool they liked, AI hallucinations were a recurring issue, frequently with one or two hallucinated questions and answer keys for each worksheet. The tool also struggled with PDF formatting. They were also having issues housing successfully generated worksheets in a persistent database to access later. Opichi reviewed the code during a 15 minute consultation and confirmed these issues were well within our wheelhouse of capabilities.
Solution
The idea was sound and entirely possible with the correct AI programming. The school and Opichi teamed up and coped the following project:
Agent Harness - programmed tighter system prompts to reduce hallucinations and errors
PDF format standardization - programmed the output to print and save in a consistent worksheet-friendly format
Revision User Interface - added micro content management system so educators could easily direct the AI to generate content on a specific topic and edit any resulting unsatisfactory wording while maintaining the other correctly generated content
ELA State Standards Alignment - included system prompts and reference files so generated content aligned with State Standards test formatting to ensure content generation directly aligned to State Standards so students were consistently working with familiar layouts and expectations for end-of-year testing
File Naming Conventions - collaborated with the school’s IT department so generated content automatically included an easily searchable nomenclature for worksheet identification and IT mapping into the new Teacher Resource Library Database
Teacher Resource Library Database - Opichi and the IT department created a secure database for the school to automatically collect teacher-approved worksheets and store them in an easily searchable library rather than redundantly regenerate the same topics and standard worksheets/answer keys year after year
Shortly after the launch of the ELA worksheet generator, the Special Education team then requested access to the tool, and additional agent harnesses were implemented so the SpEd teachers could generate specific remedial materials for their students to better meet their student IEPs. This then accommodated gifted students as well, as an enrichment generator was easily implemented.
Results
The Worksheet Generator and Teacher Resource Library was a huge success among the educators. Within weeks the school returned and requested a State Standard aligned math worksheet generator as well. The measurement and data standards required intricate agent harnesses and tight programming, but the generations finally resulted in accurate visuals aligned with the worded problems. The database was expanded to include teacher-approved state-aligned math worksheets.
The school was extremely pleased with this overall affordable resource they provided their teachers. Upon project completion, the school notably measured increased teacher collaboration and satisfaction, unified worksheets, ensured State Standards were met, decreased lesson creation time, and offered educators a favorable option for a more personalized learning experience for their students. The educators were thrilled to be spending less time on worksheet creation or hunting and more time doing fun and creative classroom engagement.
